Sauna Kits

Sauna kits are becoming more and more popular as a lower cost option for owning your own home sauna. Many people choose to purchase a complete sauna, and others build one from scratch, but the purchase of a sauna kit is an attractive and lower cost option for the home sauna user.

Some things to consider when purchasing sauna kits include:

  • Buy or build?

Building your own sauna may sound like a great do-it-yourself project, but may be more labor intensive than most people are willing to tackle. Local building codes may require inspections, licenses and design limitations. Research to make sure the design and construction of the home sauna will be something that will work in your home and will be arranged in such a way as to provide the benefits you’re looking for.

Precut sauna kits with a choice of sizes may be a good option. It will take less time to construct and already has comprehensive plans, instructions and parts to complete the project without running out of some vital component in the middle of the project.

A complete sauna kit may cost more than the built from scratch unit methods, but usually will the excellent workmanship, materials and designs which serve as an attractive and functional unit in your home.

  • Location

It’s important to determine where the sauna kit should be placed. Some people have elected to place the sauna outdoors—perhaps near a pool or patio. Others will put the sauna in a spare room, near a bedroom or dressing room. It may be better to place the sauna in a basement or family room. Features such as wiring lighting and privacy are all important in making the location decision.

  • Heater

You may choose a sauna kit that will be heated with wood, electricity, gas, or special infrared heaters. The type of heater used will impact other decisions such as location. A sauna kit which requires extensive wiring or access to wood may need to be placed in a location convenient to those amenities.

  • Lighting

In order to enjoy your sauna to the fullest, consideration needs to be given to the lighting needs. Lighting is important, not only for activities in the home sauna which require it to be well lighted, such as reading, but also to avoid the claustrophobic feeling which can occur with some people while in a small enclosed space.

  • Size

Plan for the number of people who can reasonably be expected to be using the sauna at any one time and you’ll know how large the sauna must be to comfortable house that number of people.

Sauna kits can be purchased in a wide range of sizes which will seat up to four or five people comfortably.
